My 2010 wedding season started off with a blast! A blast of snow. Over a foot of snow in less than 12 hours in Richmond, a city that doesn’t get much snow. The weather caused some challenges. A few hours before the wedding the Johnny Cash cover band canceled. The buses that were supposed to take 200 guest to the church and to the reception cancelled. But, you know what? The challenges made the day unique and special. It just brought the friends and family that much closer. Bryan and Amanda had such an amazing attitude all day. They were awesome to work with. And even though we had never met before the wedding, I felt like I had know them my whole life. In the end, everything worked out and we had a blast! And the snow will just make St. Lucia feel that much warmer! Special thanks to my second shooter Jonathan who left his 2 week old baby to shoot with me for the day (the day that turned into 3 ). He was a huge help and he got some great images.

Happy New Year! In 2009 I shot 29 wonderful weddings. I had the opportunity to work with some amazing people and capture some special memories. Here is one of my favorites of 2009. There are many things that made this wedding so special. George and Kirsten were so awesome to work with. Along the day there were so many beautiful moments. Kirsten’s mother almost was to ill to be able to come. But, she made it, and the moment they shared as she looked at her daughter in her wedding dress for the first time was priceless. Kirsten’s father seeing her for the first time was also very special. Another unique moment was George and Kirsten’s meeting before the ceremony where they touched and spoke around a door but never saw each other. From the music box George got Kirsten to a surprise Mariachi band, the list could go on and on. I was also impressed with the theme of the day. There were so many unique ideas incorporated into the entire day and they were all done extremely well. I love watching this slideshow and reliving the day. I hope you will enjoy it as well. Jessica was a bridesmaid at Ryan & Carrie’s wedding last year. So, I was really looking forward to seeing her again and photographing her wedding. It was a beautiful snowy day at Veritas Vineyard which is located just outside Charlottesville. The vineyard was the perfect place for a candlelit winter wedding. Here are a few of my favorites …

Duke Chapel Wedding Photography : Jon + Lindsay

Jon & Lindsay came up from Florida to perfect fall weather for their beautiful wedding in Durham. The day started and ended at the Marriot, and the ceremony was at the breathtaking Duke Chapel. It’s a special place to get married and very much in demand. I have a wedding there in the spring where the bride’s mother flew from Pittsburgh and camped out in a tent for a two nights to get in line to make sure they got the date they wanted. And you thought it was just for basketball tickets : ) I had a wonderful time working with Jon & Lindsay, and I was honored to have the opportunity to document their wedding day. Here are a few of my favorites …

Every bride needs a bridesmaid to take care of unexpected events. Lindsay’s bridesmaid works the phones, talking to two people at once, to fix a dress snafu.

Duke Engagement Session : Ben + Laura

I had a wonderful time with Ben and Laura at Duke Gardens. I’m very excited about their June wedding at the Highgrove.

Laura told me that Ben wanted to get her a ring where it was obvious that she was engaged … mission accomplished!

Boone Engagement Session : Chris + Kristen

Chris & Kristen live in Raleigh, but as a fellow alumna of Appalachian, Kristen wanted to do an engagement session that captured the beauty of the Boone area. It took a little work to get to these amazing locations, but it was so worth it. We started off at Hebron Rock Colony and finished up on Rough Ridge. I really enjoyed spending the day with them.

These colors were not Photoshopped. This is how it actually looked. Beautiful orange sunset. Blue sky. Pink clouds. Grandfather mountain. And the moon. Perfection.

Charlotte Wedding Photography : Joshua + Alisha

Two weeks ago I had the privilege of going south and shooting Joshua & Alisha’s wonderful wedding. The event took place at the beautiful River Run Country Club in Davidson NC. Joshua & Alisha were so relaxed and were a real pleasure to work with. The wedding day was actually the first time I had a chance to meet them. Alisha is a fellow photographer and a fellow alumna of App. State. In fact, that’s where she and Joshua met. That’s also where I met my wife, Christie. When Alisha was planning her wedding, she was in Boone, and we couldn’t meet. However, we really hit it off on the phone. I felt some added pressure on the wedding day because Alisha is also a photographer. You can check out her website here. One thing that helped make the day special was that I had the opportunity to work with Rodney of Autumn Song Photography. He is an awesome photographer and even a better person. The day was filled with some beautiful moments, here are some of my favorites …

Winston-Salem Wedding Photography : Thomas + Brittany

I don’t think words could describe what a fun wedding this was and how wonderful Thomas and Brittany are. It’s the weddings like this with people like this that make me love being a wedding photographer. I first met Thomas and Brittany back in May for their engagement session. After the session we grabbed some dinner just hang out and talk. They had an early flight to catch back to the Virgin Islands, where they were living at the time, but even so we spent several hours just getting to know each other. They are special people. I also had the privilege to work along side uber talented artists James and Marianna Player of Player Wedding Films. You have to check out Thomas and Brittany’s wedding trailer here.

Thomas and Brittany got each other the same card and underlined some of the same words! What are the chances.

I could show you some fun posed portraits but I’d rather show you some genuine moments during the first dance.

This was one of my favorite moments of the night. Brittany’s sister said that she had always longed for, a man after God’s own heart, and she was so happy for Brittany because Thomas was that kind of man.

Brittany’s father tells Thomas that he is like the son he never had. Only problem is that he does have a son. : )

Pittsboro Wedding Photography : Aaron + Brittany

There are so many wonderful things I can say about this wedding. Great moments, great shoes, two great cars, great dresses, great venue, great dancers, great theme, great details. But the thing I enjoyed the most was that Aaron and Brittany are wonderful people. It was such a pleasure to spend the day with them and photograph such an amazing wedding. They had a fabulous engagement session almost a year ago. You can see it here. Here are a few (well… bunch) of my favorites …

Aaron got Brittany a new Bible with her “new name” engraved on it and wrote a little something inside it.

Brittany’s mom had her wedding ring made into a pendant and completely surprised Brittany.

Winston-Salem Wedding Photography : Jay + Kristi

Last week I had the privilege of photographing Jay + Kristi’s Winston-Salem Wedding. They live in Charlotte and a few months ago we did a fun engagement session in Uptown Charlotte. After missing the rain completely the week before, I wasn’t as lucky this week. It limited some of the photographs at Wake Forest but a heavy rain would have been much worse. I loved the schedule of the day. It started at Kristi’s house and then Kristi and Jay met for a private meeting at Wake Forest. Jay went to graduate school there. The wedding party met us there for some casual photos. This was followed by a church ceremony and then we were off to the Piedmont Club. What a great view overlooking the city. Here are a few of my favorites…
